Problem in my town

Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm writing because there aren't any activities for teenagers to do in our town. I'm sending you a photo which shows our local park. There are no skate or football courts and there's only one small basketball pitch so far of the centre of Banyoles, in Sant Pere. Also, there's a cafe, so we can buy drinks, sandwiches or ice creams.
I think there are two main reasons for this problem. Firstly, the council spends all its money on things for babies and young children. Secondly, the council doesn't want teenagers to go to the park with friends in the evenings.
We must do something about this situation. Maybe the council hasn't go a lot of money but we must do something to help bored teenagers. We need a place to go.
Yours faithfully,

Laia Tortós-Sala Granés

Electric Harley

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Harley Davidson is famous for its monster bikes. But times are changing at the iconic firm. Hving recently introduced lower-powered, cheaper models for younger riders, Harley is taking a risk by releasing the Livewire, and electric-powered urban bike, whose high-pitched whine sounds nothing like the roar of a real Harley. Born to be wild? More like born to be mild!

CIA's twitter debut

Langley, Virginia

The spooks at the CIA have opened a Twitter account, and it seems they have a sense of humour. "We can neither confirm nor deny that his is okurt first tweet," it's opening tweet read. Next came: "Thank you for the @Twitter welcome! We look forward tho sharing great #unclassified content with you." Not everyone appreciated their humor. The New York Review of Books tweeted back links to documents detailing the CIA's brutal interrogation tactics since 9/11.

TV highlight

The highlight of this week's TV was definitely the drama series Castle. On Monday's episode, Castle, Beckett, Ryan and Esposito were investigating a murder of a boy found in an ice cream truck. They had a track about a paper in a Primary School, they searched him in Primary School. In the end the testimony was the sister of one children, who went to that school, and the they captured the murder.

Channel 33's TV show, “How do I look” was also worth watching. On Saturday episode, there was a very ugly woman without make up and old clothes, with two daughters, she wanted to subject a radical change. In the end she was a beautiful woman with a very modern clothes and make up.

Finally something which also caught my eye was a story on Tuesday's news. A man paralyzed, the doctors gave to him a medicine and then he could walk. It was a good story, and now the doctors tested this medicine with other people.

Kung fu in the air

Flight attendants in China are learning how to "calm" passengers: with kung fu! 20,000 new students are discovering how to use the ancient martial art to control difficult travellers. They are learning specials techniques that can be used on aeroplanes!

Mary Shelly's Frankenstein

For me the most interestant part of the fim it was:
Victor, who believes his creation destroyed, returns to Geneva with the intent of marrying Elizabeth. He finds there that his little brother William has been murdered. Justine Moritz, a servant of the Frankenstein household, is framed for the crime and hanged by a lynch mob. That night Victor is approached by his creation, who tells him to meet him on the mountain. Realizing that the creature murdered his brother, Victor goes with the intent of destroying his creation, but is no match for his enhanced speed and strength. The creature asks who the people were that Victor used to build him. Victor replies that they were merely raw materials, but the creature replies that he knew how to read, speak and play the recorder; he didn't learn how to, he remembered how.

What do you know about Halloween?

Halloween (also spelled Hallowe'en) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints.

Originally Halloween was a pagan festival, around the idea of linking the living with the dead, when contact became possible between the spirits and the physical world, and magical things were more likely to happen. Like most pagan festivals, long ago it was absorbed into the festivals of the expanding Christian church, and became associated with All Hallows Day, or All Saints Day, which eventually fell on November 1.
The celebration of Halloween survived most strongly in Ireland. It was an end of summer festival, and was often celebrated in each community with a bonfire to ward off the evil spirits. Children would go from door to door in disguise as creatures from the underworld to collect treats, mainly fruit, nuts and the like for the festivities. These were used for playing traditional games like eating an apple on a string or bobbing for apples and other gifts in a basin of water, without using your hands. Salt might be sprinkled on the visiting children to ward off evil spirits. Carving turnips as ghoulish faces to hold candles became a popular part of the festival, which has been adapted to carving pumpkins in America.

The day is often associated with the colours black and orange, and is strongly associated with symbols like the jack-o'-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror films!

Hi, my name is Laia and now I'm going to talk about my last summer. I'm going to explain two thinks about my last summer. The first is my trip to Abbotsholme school, in England, and the second is my trip to La Palma de Gran Canarias.

Abbotsholme school:

On 13th of July, I went to Abbotsholme school, near a little village called Uttoxer in the north-west of England. I lived in the school, it was a great place with a swimming pool, tennis courts, sports hall, a theatre,...

In the mornings, I went to class with people from others nationalities, we had three hours of class. In the afternoons we did some activities, for example: tennis, badminton, arts and crafts, basketball, hockey,.. Except on Wednesday afternoon, because we went on an excursion. On the first Wednesday we went to Poole's cavern and in the second to Nottingham. Finally in the evenings we did more activities; we played a capital quiz, a fashion show, mystery murder, disco,...

On the first Saturday we went on an excursion to Manchester, we visited the museum of science and industry, and the we had some break time, on the second Saturday, we went to Stratford, the city of Shakespeare, and we visited his house. It was so fun!!

My favourite excursion was on the first Sunday and we went only all the Catalans in Alton Towers because it's an amusement park, the biggest in England. It was really fun and we had a great time. My favourite ride was a rollercoaster called Rita, it's similar to Furious Backus and the other is called Air.

La Palma de Gran Canarias:

On 3rd of August, I went to la Palma de Gran Canarias with my family and friends. We stayed there for five days and it was fun. We lived in a hotel situated in the South of the island, in San Agustin. The hotel was a five stars and It's called Meliã. There is a big swimming pool, a spa, a gym, a place for video games and a buffet.
We rent a car, and every day we went an excursions, sometimes in the mornings and in the afternoon. When we weren't on an excursion, we stayed in the pool or me and my sister went to the gym. We had got a great time and was very happy.
